Around 1150 BC, an Egyptian scribe named Amennakhte drew a map of a desert valley and marked one range: "the hills where gold is found." It is the oldest surviving geological map in the world. Three thousand years later, the ground it describes has exactly one commercial gold mine, which maybe about to change.

Adrian O'Brien of Red Sea Resources walks through the company's three early-stage projects: Ra, a copper-gold porphyry target near Hurghada; Luxor, which sits on a structural corridor that also runs through the Sukari mine; and Oasis, a 15.5 km mineralised horizon in the south.
